Freja Fischer 2.0

Character Update for Monday, June 29, 2009

According to the rules of the finger circle game, she gets to punch you in the arm, now.

What I was planning to wrap up and put on the site 2 weeks ago before the site crashed is now up. All of the characters are going to be revealed in this style before new comics begin again. I did Freja first because, well, drawing pretty girls is fun.

Oz-Ten, for the most part, will remain unchanged. He will look slightly different, though.

Feel free to speak your mind on this “update”. I really like this new style, and am definitely moving forward with it.

I have a doctor’s appointment in 2 weeks

I’ve been drawing whenever I have the chance, usually during work meetings, but I haven’t been drawing on the computer. Mostly because my workstation is about as non-ergonomic as you can get. I’ll be replacing that in August. My doctor said to just take it easy and let the tendons fully heal before I get full-force back to the comic. Having carpal tunnel for the rest of my life freaks me the hell out, so I am going to follow the doctor’s orders. I realize this will aggravate or piss off numerous people.

With good reason.

I get pissed when webcomics I enjoy are put off by real world issues, but this is an unfortunate consequence of being the guy that does everything on Koalacaust. Its easy to say “You should have it done way in advance, every day it should go up at a certain time” when you are just the writer. I know, I was one of the guys saying that when I started the comic. I even made a few self-righteous posts about how “there’s no excuse, the content should be there.”When you’re the writer, knocking out months of scripts is a piece of cake. I have large portions of the story completely mapped out, down to scripts, and the entire story planned out. When you’re the one drawing it, things change.

I’m the one that got carpal tunnel symptoms, so I’m the one that has to heal. I’m not laying the blame at anyone’s feet but my own.

I have been practicing drawing the character’s faces and heads from different angles over and over again on paper. I’ve also been drawing hands and feet, two of the easiest things to screw up.  Time isn’t being wasted, it’s just being channeled elsewhere, and unfortunately at the reader’s expense. I do want you to come back when things are back to normal, so feel free to email me at scottrobertson@xerxestwd.com

I will not use that email address for anything other than to say “Hey, my hand is healed and new comics are back up!”

I am going to take the time while I heal to finish rebuilding the character and location pages, as well as the tagging of old comics, two things destroyed after the crash. The fault is mine, and I hope you can forgive me, since I don’t charge you anything to read the comic.

As ever, your patience is appreciated.
